Dr Ortutay has earned his PhD in evolutionary biology at Eötvös Loránd University in 2003. He has conducted his research during the past years in the Bioinformatics group of Institute of Biomedical Technology, University of Tampere, Finland, as a postdoctoral researcher, later as an adjunct professor, and most recently as a university lecturer of bioinformatics.

In 2012, he worked as acting professor of bioinformatics. In this position he led a small research team of 6 PhD and 4 MSc students, mainly focusing research in variation effect prediction related to NGS data analysis. Additionally, computational immunology modeling. At the same time, he was responsible for the organization and administration of the international Masters Degree Programme in Bioinformatics of the University of Tampere, where he teaches multiple courses.

Dr Ortutay has experience in University level teaching since 1998. He has instructed laboratory, virtual, and classroom courses
